HELLO!BAKERSFIELD

The once-small town of Bakersfield, California has doubled its population over the past twenty years. Now the 9th largest city in California, the growing community is experiencing a cultural shift as it welcomes a more diverse population while still honoring its rich history + the traditions, institutions + values that shaped it.

Listen to the Hello!Bakersfield podcast, brought to you by The Hub of Bakersfield, as hosts Andrae Gonzales, Rachel Magnus, Jesus Gonzalez + Carla Barrientos explore the dynamic people, places + cultures of the dynamic Bakersfield community.

INNOVATION LAB

The Innovation Lab is lead by The Hub of Bakersfield’s People committee and creates opportunities for passionate community members to become innovators by contributing to tangibly changing the urban core of Bakersfield through our annual program.

Selected participants come up with 90-day goals designed to add value to Bakersfield’s urban core. The program focuses on economic development, placemaking, and connection.

CASH FOR ARTS

The Cash for Arts initiative began during the COVID-19 pandemic to financially support struggling artists during the most difficult days of the stay-at-home order. Since then, The Hub has conducted two iterations of the program.

The second “Cash for Arts” program called on local artists to paint utility boxes in east Bakersfield and Old Town Kern.

The third community art project that will feature 10 local artists to paint utility boxes in southeast Bakersfield, made possible by the Law Office of Curtis Floyd grant program. The theme is, “Southeast Strong: Past, Present, and Future.”

Adopt-a-park

The Hub of Bakersfield is leading the charge to activate Central Park in downtown Bakersfield with its Adopt-a-Park program.

Starting with regular cleanups of the park, The Hub wants to ensure that the park feels clean and safe for all visitors, making it even more of an attraction for people to spend time downtown. In the future, our team envisions additional events and partnerships to bring more activities to Central Park so that there are more reasons to get downtown and enjoy this beautiful space.

BE IN BAKERSFIELD

Be In Bakersfield is a grassroots nonprofit + movement that shares the interesting, creative, and captivating side of Bakersfield.

We're here to show what value, talent + opportunities exist in the city we call home.

This movement is built to share the conversations we all have — those of triumph, pushback, success, challenges, and excitement. It's okay that we have things to work on here in town — that means there's opportunity for growth.

The Hub of Bakersfield is proud to sponsor this organization that takes pride in where we live + is excited to BE IN BAKERSFIELD.
