The Hub of Bakersfield nonprofit is accepting applications for its latest “Cash for Arts” program that calls on local artists to paint 10 utility boxes in southeast Bakersfield.
The theme for this year’s competitive community art project is, “Southeast Strong: Past, Present, and Future.” Applicants are encouraged to develop art that relates to at least one of these aspects.
Applicants are being accepted now through April 24, with recipients announced on May 1. This project is made possible by the Law Office of Curtis Floyd and Curtis and Jennifer Floyd grant program, a competitive grant application that provided over $300,000 to local nonprofits.
“We are so grateful for the generosity of The Law Office of Curtis Floyd that allows us to both beautify our city and also support the careers of our local artists,” said Jonathan Yates, Hub of Bakersfield chairman of the board of directors. “We encourage all interested artists to apply, and we are excited to see how they use this opportunity to transform southeast Bakersfield.”
The Cash for Arts initiative began during the COVID-19 pandemic to financially support struggling artists during the most difficult days of the stay-at-home order. Since then, The Hub has conducted two iterations of the program benefiting east Bakersfield, downtown Bakersfield, and Old Town Kern.
