Save Sumner Station in old town kern
The Sumner Station in Old Town Kern is an important community landmark that we should collectively work to preserve and protect. As a key part of our history, Old Town Kern and the Sumner Station is more than just an individual neighborhood or a lone building. This area and station are important to Bakersfield's shared identity; it doesn't matter where you live in Bakersfield, its future is important to all of Bakersfield.
We believe that the city should do whatever is necessary to ensure that Union Pacific does not destroy Sumner Station, as the renovation and adaptive reuse of this historic building can help anchor redevelopment in Old Town Kern and East Bakersfield. Having this location as a reimagined landmark will benefit our regional economy and our local pride.
