Introducing OBSCURA • Immersive Photo Experience - January 2022

WHAT: OBSCURA, AN IMMERSIVE PHOTO EXPERIENCE

The HUB of Bakersfield will launch OBSCURA,  a series of interactive art exhibits that will take visitors on a visual adventure.  Similar to popular “selfie-museums” throughout the world, OBSCURA will immerse visitors in sets in a fun, interactive way.   This new-to-Bakersfield concept will be a fun for all-ages, family-friendly event, celebrating many of Downtown’s best establishments and landmarks.

Hub Board Member and Project Manager Ryan Sanders says that the exhibits are “not just cool backdrops for photos. These are complete rooms with several vignettes you can discover... Spaces where you can feel inspired and creative here in Bakersfield.”

“OBSCURA features an array of interesting spaces, including a confetti playroom, projections and an art gallery where local art pieces will be available for sale. Not only are these areas immersive and interactive, they are themed around downtown businesses that celebrate our local story in wild, whimsical and chic ways,” Sanders explains.

General Admission tickets are $20; $15 discount tickets available for students, seniors, military, and first responders.

WHEN: Every Friday and Saturday night in January, 6pm-10pm. Second Saturday (Jan 8) from 10am-1pm.

WHERE: Find us in OBSCURA at 2020 G St, Bakersfield, CA 93301. Hint - it’s the warehouse behind the Fox Theater,  corner G and 20th Streets.

WHO: The Hub of Bakersfield, a local nonprofit focused on revitalizing Bakersfield’s urban core.
WHY: The Hub wants to kick off the new year with an exciting art exhibit to Downtown Bakersfield. HUB Chairman Andrae Gonzales describes the event as “an exciting project that will hopefully serve as a catalyst for future creative work, and renew the community’s love for our city center.”
