A Centennial High School Junior whose has a heart for the artistic experience, Dani Richert brings a five-page coloring book to families sheltering at home in Bakersfield.

According to Richert her coloring book isn’t just about staying within the lines, her hope is to give its users a stronger connection to place.

“I want to encourage families to reflect on Bakersfields' great legacy amidst these times of hardship and uncertainty. I was my project to go much further than just a few coloring pages, but instead be a reminder of our rich community that will continue to stay strong no matter the conditions.”

Richert is the Centennial High School Yearbook Editor and has her own business, D.I.Y. Dani, where she hand-crafts custom greeting cards.  The COVID-19 pandemic is giving her an early lesson in running a business in times of crisis.

“I've had to think outside of the box and be versatile, as obtaining materials is much more difficult. On the other hand, I have had much more time to be reflective of my business and contemplate the most ethical and sensitive reaction during these hard times from a business standpoint. It brings me a lot of satisfaction when my customers pass on to me how much joy and hope my greeting cards bring them, especially right now.”
