Oleander Artwalk by Creative Crossing • Cash For The Arts
A group of artists donating their time and expertise transform the alleys of one of Bakersfield’s oldest neighborhoods, making a walking experience for local families.
“Creative Crossing Oleander Artwalk is a walkway for community members to enjoy.” says Sarah Nobles of Creative Crossings. “During quarantine, many people have been able to get outside and walk their neighborhood in a safe way while respecting social distancing. We complete murals on the fences and walls with home-owners artistic input to transform unused alleyways into a museum of outdoor art.”
Running on donations and the paint recycling centers collect, Creative Crossings says access to these supplies have been limited due to COVID-19. Through the “Cash for the Arts” grant the mission of Creative Crossing has been able to continue, creating new pieces for walkers to enjoy.
“Many people in the community have reached out to us to tell us that seeing the art already up has helped with depression and anxiety during this quarantine time. We believe art brings hope and positivity to the local neighborhood.”
While Creative Crossings is providing a much-needed walking escape in times of quarantine, Nobles says their work has only just begun.
“Our mission from the start was to help inspire community members and artists to continue to spread art awareness. We will continue to paint murals after quarantine to help deter home vandalism. We also want to bring value to people’s homes and neighborhoods by bringing art right to their front doors and accessible to everyone.”
