2020 Recap • Year End Letter
The end of the calendar year is approaching. We are writing you in hopes that you can make a tax-deductible donation in support of The Hub of Bakersfield, and help us in our mission to make Bakersfield a better place to invest, work, live, and play. We believe that the arts, culture and creative industries of our region make an enormous contribution to the local economy through tourism and improving the quality of life in our community.
Only through donations and grants, the Hub has been able to help Bakersfield deal with this year’s pandemic with the following projects and programs:
Innovation Lab
We brought together 10 local Innovators to work together in a team environment to develop a list of projects and ideas to benefit downtown Bakersfield, and execute them.
Murals
We began a new urban mural under the Kentucky Street/Beale Avenue bridge to beautify the area and empower girls and young women of East Bakersfield.
Christmas Album
Longtime local band Mento Buru partnered with The Hub of Bakersfield to release “East Bakersfield Christmas,” of reimagined holiday favorites available to the public for free.
Wall Street Outdoor Dining
In response to the State Covid-19 restrictions on in-door dining, the HUB partnered with Downtown restaurants and the City of Bakersfield to temporarily close Wall Street Alley and a portion of 19th Street to allow for outdoor dining.
Cash for Arts
During the middle of the pandemic, we awarded 13 grants to local creatives to help them during this difficult time, and create something we can all enjoy.
Second Saturday
We continued to promote fun things to do in downtown Bakersfield by connecting our community with local business on the second Saturday of each month.
Hello Bakersfield
The podcast that explores the dynamic people, places and culture of our community continues strong.
